Dual Piano
Bimodal Press is thrilled to present “Dual Piano”, a limited edition release of 150 cassettes for Head-Boggle.
Within the interstices of each valley and plateau of every sound Head-boggle has ever made, or will ever make, exists all the harmonies, tonal lines and compositional flourishes found in these songs. That is untrue. However, if you listen to most of what Derek Gedalecia has performed or published previously, you will always find an undercurrent of devotion to melody and the well-ordered truths of conventional music. Sometimes set aside for physical flourishes within live contexts, other times submerged in sonic layers of intrepid creative experimentation, recognizable patterns persistently stalk our ears like reluctant guardians ferrying us through slingshot rides into the unfamiliar.
The short songs collected here are a revelation of sorts. Not because we are being treated to the more orthodox side of Head-boggle (who typically eschews formalism and custom in favor of the new), but because these bare acoustic works, with their imminently palpable physicality, are both beautifully transcendent and moving. This is not to say that any of Derek's other music isn’t, he's just never revealed it to us in this particular way before. Within these nineteen articulated piano flourishes exists the musical mastery up his sleeve, a reverse sleight of hand that offers a brief yet durable glance under the hood.
